Glastonbury High School's Student Athlete of the Month: Vincent Laudone

May 10, 2012

Your full name: Vincent Laudone

Do you have a nickname: Vinny

Your grade in school: Senior

Sport: Boy’s GHS Varsity Tennis Team. I’m co-captains with Bobby Snyder and Sam Julian.

Your Birthdate: September 25,  and I’m the 4th of four children.

Background: I started playing tennis in 7th grade, and I did well and continued with it ever since. Freshman year I started on doubles and this year I'm playing No. 2 singles. I’ve been on the varsity team since freshman year.  I used to play at Pinebrook in the summers and now in the fall /winter I play at Glastonbury Tennis Center and the EH Racquet Club.

How do you prepare for a match? I try to get a good night’s sleep and go to bed early and drink lots of water and stay hydrated.  We stretch as a team and then I stretch by myself to stay loose and then I talk to my teammates. I also read up on the kids I’m playing against so  I know their strengths and weaknesses.

Thoughts on the upcoming season: We’ve got a good season going thus far,  we’ve only lost once. We have lots of seniors on the lineup, and we’re looking to do well at states this year.

Biggest School Rival: Hall High School

Favorite Sports Memory: At states last year I played doubles with Garrett Lynn. We were playing against a team from Staples, it was a close match and we won.  The whole team was cheering  – it was a really fun moment.

My Role Model: My grandfather, who also played tennis and stuck with it and played into his 80s.

Favorite Way to Relax: Listening to music on the radio or on Pandora.

Favorite Class at School: Music Theory – I like music and it’s different from other classes. You learn a lot about music, it’s a fun class.

Favorite Junk Food: Cookies

What’s Playing on Your iPod? A  lot of hip hop and rap that I listen to before a match to pump me up. I also have a lot of 90’s music because my sisters listened to it and that’s what I’m familiar with.

Favorite Restaurant: Moe’s

Red Sox or Yankees: Not much of a baseball fan, but Red Sox

Favorite Movie: I like comedies. I like Dodgeball and action movies like Dark Knight.

Favorite TV Show: I watch the news every night

Plans for After High School: Going to Boston College and thinking about a Biology major.
