Glastonbury High School's Student Athlete of the Month: Lucas Finamore

Apr 22, 2012

Do you have a nickname: No

Your grade in school: Senior

Sport: GHS Varsity lacrosse - I’m a defenseman and I’m going to college to play both lacrosse and rugby. In rugby I play wing or second row.

Your Birthdate: Feb 12. I’m the third of four kids.

  • I’ve been playing Lacrosse for 12 years. I moved to Glastonbury in 6th grade and before that I played in Maryland. I played for the CT Cardinals through High School during the summer. Last year I played for the Quinnipiac Bobcats. I made the GHS Varsity Lacrosse team my sophomore year. I was also nominated for Super Juniors last year in lacrosse.

What do you love most about your sport: I like the physicality of lacrosse and the speed. It’s an intricate sport. There’s lots of tactical information you need to know, it’s not just hitting guys, you need a lot of strategy. In terms of rugby, I got into rugby when I was 12. I like the physicality of the sport. Now I’m going to college to play rugby too.

How do you prepare for a game? I blast heavy metal music and I like being in the team setting before the game so we have cohesion with each other. Before we start I go off to the side and imagine what I have to do in the game, play for play. This helps me know what to do when situations arise on the field so I can be proactive not reactive.

Thoughts on the upcoming season: We have a good, fast team this year. We take it one game at a time. We’ll be strong this year. I’m enjoying being a senior; it’s nice pressure. I’m sad it’s my last season, but I’m moving onto to bigger things.

Biggest Other School Rival: Simsbury

Favorite Sports Memory: High school pasta parties and playing basketball with the team. The Cheshire game last year is a great memory . We were down five goals in the fourth quarter and we came back to tie it up and then won in double overtime.

My Role Model: My dad. He’s a strong leader and individual and that’s what I strive to be.

Favorite Way to Relax: Watching TV and hanging out with family

Favorite Class at School: History – I love history, learning about the past and learning how it applies to the future.

Favorite Junk Food: Honey Barbecue Potato Chips

What’s Playing on Your iPod?: Foo Fighters and Kings of Leon

Favorite Restaurant: Plan B

Red Sox or Yankees: Red Sox

Favorite Movie: The last Mission Impossible movie

Plans for After High School: Norwich University in Vermont to play rugby and lacrosse
